SECONDARY TRANSFER

Planning and preparing for your child’s transition to secondary school is crucial, and as your child moves into Year 5 it can be a good time to start thinking and preparing for their Secondary Transfer.

There are many good schools in both the state and private sectors, and it can all take time to think about and look around to see the options that may be available to you and your child.

In the first few months of each new school year state secondary schools offer the opportunity to visit and look around at their Open Days, which are held predominantly for the parents of children in Year 6.  However, it certainly makes sense to start some careful preparatory work in Year 5 as this can help to reduce anxiety and stress when your child is in Year 6.

The Headteacher has a list of secondary schools that are available but this is not an exhaustive list.  New schools are being built along with Academies too.  Ask for a copy of this list as it will give you a starting point.  You can then look at the various school websites and begin to collect the necessary information you require.  The most important information will be relating to the Admissions criteria.
Do please look at this carefully and see whether you fit the criteria.
