In Key Stage 1 pupils are taught to explore the world around them and to raise their own questions through studying: plants, animals (including humans), everyday materials and seasonal changes.
By the end of the Key Stage, pupils are expected to read and spell scientific vocabulary at a level consistent with their increasing word reading and spelling knowledge at Key Stage 1.
In Key State 2 pupils are taught to have their scientific view of the world around them greatly broadened through much more detailed areas of study, including: plants, animals, rocks, light, forces and magnets, states of matter, sound, electricity, properties of materials and space.
