ABOUT SMA > PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS
St Mary Abbots School encourages the involvement of parents in their children’s education to help them reach their full potential.
Parent/teacher consultations are held twice each year - in the Autumn and Spring terms - for discussion about children’s progress. These are 10 minute consultations with your child’s year teacher. Parents will be advised in advance about the dates of these meetings and can book times to suit them. These meetings are important and every effort should be made to attend during the specified consultation period.
Other meetings may also be held throughout the academic year to consult with parents over school issues, plan events, or for social reasons. In the Spring term an Education Evening is held with a focus on how parents can help support their child’s learning in a specific area of the curriculum or more generally on parenting or behaviour. There are monthly Open Days to give parents the opportunity to come into school with their child and look at his or her work in the classroom, including their books.
The Headteacher produces a fortnightly newsletter to inform parents of forthcoming events and important dates for each term. Teachers also keep parents informed with regular letters home, which you will find in your child's book bag.
Parents are always invited to the annual cycle of school events, including the Harvest Festival, concerts, church services and so on. They will also be asked to accompany classes on trips and support in class, by arrangement with the teacher.
Parents are always welcome to talk to their children’s teacher at the end of the school day once the children have been dismissed. Parents can also make appointments to speak with their child’s Classteacher, Deputy Headteacher or Headteacher, provided the teacher is available. Communication is via the pupil ‘book bags’ , and email / text through Schoolcomms.
