Why our houses are named after The Oceans.
It has become a tradition at St Mary Abbots to allocate each child a house team. In 2015 our elected school councillors decided that our houses needed a revamp. The first step was to get the houses renamed. Council members each put forward a suggestion and then, a list of their most popular five were compiled. This list was then presented to each class in turn, where each child was invited to vote for their favourite. After the votes were counted and verified our new house teams were named after... The Oceans!
How are house teams allocated?
House teams are allocated at random. However, we do ensure that all siblings are allocated the same house.
How do you earn house points and what is the reward?
It is possible to achieve house points in a variety of ways and for a variety of reasons. These may include: polite and courteous behaviour; being an interested and inspired learner; going above and beyond in an area of school life; for a brilliant answer or a fantastic piece of learning.
We also have a Merit award. That equals five house points and you also earn a certificate. This is awarded in our achievement assembly on a Friday. A merit is earned for something exceptional.
House points are counted throughout the half term. The house with the most house points at the end of each half term wins a movie and popcorn afternoon with Miss Keck.
